Weird times call for weird music. Hyperion, TVVR’s second EP, will be released on August 27.
Hyperion is a tower like Sutro, but it is organic – it is growing, swaying, surviving, and changing. Through the three tracks on this EP weaves the common thread of a desire for more, a refusal to remain stagnant.
When Tony and Victor finished recording Sutro in 2020, they started immediately on a new batch of songs. Bass takes center stage on Sutro, but Tony and Victor really had an urge to let their guitars fly this time around. The opening and closing tracks feature Tony and Victor’s lead playing, while Tony and Victor really duke it out with their hocketing guitars in Conflict, the second track. This album also marks a more prominent role for Victor, who wrote and sings lead vocals on the first two tracks.
Early listeners have compared the EP’s sound to XTC, Gentle Giant, Genesis, R.E.M., Talking Heads, and Fountains of Wayne.
This EP was recorded entirely in TVVR’s apartment from late 2020 to early 2021. Tony and Victor play all of the instruments, with the exception of the drums on Doubtfire.
